Physics Double Major Program

This double major program, affiliated with the Department of Physics Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Letters, aims to equip students with foundational and current knowledge in theoretical physics and to add a new dimension to interdisciplinary studies. The program builds skills in mathematical modeling of physical phenomena and analytical problem-solving, provides foundational knowledge in quantum technologies (quantum computing, communication, cryptography, and sensors), and prepares students for graduate programs in physics and other interdisciplinary fields.

Manufacturing Engineering Double Major Program

The Manufacturing Engineering double major program is being planned for students from the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and Industrial Engineering. The program is currently under development; details regarding its scope and application requirements will be announced at a later stage.

Mathematics Double Major Program

This double major program, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Letters, allows students from various engineering disciplines at ITU to deepen their knowledge in theoretical areas of mathematics such as Analysis, Algebra, Differential Geometry, and Topology, and to gain academic formation at international standards. The program helps students apply theoretical mathematics to problems in science, engineering, social sciences, and everyday life, develop and analyze mathematical models, work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, and prepares them for graduate programs in mathematics and other basic science fields.

Minor Programs
MINOR

Sensor Technologies Minor Program

Coordinated by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Chemical-Metallurgical Engineering Faculty, with contributions from the Faculties of Electrical-Electronics, Naval Architecture and Marine Sciences, Management, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Science and Letters, and Textile Technologies and Design, this minor program is designed with an interdisciplinary structure. It covers topics such as sensors and instrumentation, functional materials, and electronics fundamentals, as well as application areas including the Internet of Things, semiconductor materials, sensor systems for marine applications, and smart textiles.

MINOR

History of Science and Technology Minor Program

Run by the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Letters together with the Institute for the History of Engineering and Technology (MTTE), this minor program examines the development of science, technology, and engineering across different civilizations, the historical evolution of scientific thought, and the impact of these developments on human history. With its interdisciplinary structure, the program offers a shared learning ground for students from engineering, basic sciences, social sciences, and the humanities, and aims to give participants a critical perspective and analytical skills regarding the formation and transformation of scientific thought within its historical, social, and cultural context. The program is open to students from all departments (engineering, architecture, conservatory, etc.).

MINOR

Informatics Applications and Computational Sciences Minor Program

Run in partnership between the Faculty of Management and the Informatics Institute, this minor program has an interdisciplinary structure covering Linux/Unix-based shell scripting, scientific computing with Python, R, and Fortran, computational neuroscience, spatial data analysis, bioinformatics, image processing, and data-driven modeling and learning. Based on the idea that data problems do not fit within the boundaries of a single department, the program gives students from management, engineering, and basic sciences a shared language, combines theoretical foundations with applicable computational skills, and builds a bridge to graduate studies and data-driven careers. Unlike a typical "Data Science" or "Machine Learning" minor, it focuses on the broad infrastructure of computational sciences rather than popular algorithms alone. The program is currently open to students from the Faculties of Management, Computer and Informatics, Electrical-Electronics, and Science and Letters, with plans to extend it to all faculties; courses are mostly taught in English, with some in Turkish.

ITU TMDK Turkish Music Minor Program

Prepared with the joint curriculum of the seven undergraduate departments of the Turkish Music State Conservatory (TMDK), this minor program brings together musicology, music theory, and music technology, embodying the synergy between engineering and the arts. It aims to integrate the university's accumulated knowledge in engineering, science, and technology with the conservatory's expertise in music scholarship and art, allowing students from technical disciplines to combine their artistic skills with performance and music scholarship. The program is open to students from all departments except TMDK students.

MINOR

Quantum Computing Minor Program

Designed under the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Computer and Informatics, this minor program brings together computer science and computer engineering perspectives in the field of quantum computing within an interdisciplinary structure. The program covers mathematical foundations such as linear algebra and complex vector spaces, quantum algorithms and complexity analysis, physical qubit technologies such as superconducting, trapped-ion, and photonic systems, and systems architecture engineering. In response to the rapidly growing global importance of quantum technologies, the program aims to train a competent workforce in this field and to be a pioneering undergraduate-level program. The program will be open to students from all departments, and courses will be taught in English.

Nuclear Engineering Minor Program

Run by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in partnership with the Energy Institute, this minor program aims to equip students with skills in nuclear reactor technologies, reactor design, nuclear safety, fuel cycle, and radiation measurement. The program trains engineers capable of design and analysis work that meets the needs of evolving nuclear technology, producing "nuclear-aware" engineers. The program is open to students from all departments, and courses are taught in English.

MINOR

Oceanography Minor Program

Coordinated by the Department of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering at the Faculty of Naval Architecture and Marine Sciences, this minor program has a genuinely multidisciplinary structure: courses covering marine science, marine ecology, coastal engineering, underwater acoustics, marine geophysics, marine geology, climate change, and ocean modeling can be taken from seven different departments, including Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering, Environmental, Geophysical, Geological, Meteorological, and Civil Engineering. Three new courses, Introduction to Ocean Modeling, Ocean Biogeochemistry, and Marine Monitoring Techniques, have also been introduced. The program is open to students from all departments; Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering students follow a fully elective course plan, while students from other engineering departments follow a plan of one mandatory course plus electives.

Defense Technologies Minor Program

Run in partnership between the Department of Defense Technologies at the Aviation Institute and the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, this minor program provides an interdisciplinary knowledge base and applied skills in guidance, control, navigation, avionics systems, communication, and defense technology policy. The program trains engineers who can respond to the current needs of the defense industry and integrate theory, laboratory work, and field experience, equipping students with competencies in aerial vehicle and unmanned system technologies, guidance-navigation-autonomy, wireless communication techniques, embedded systems, and defense R&D policy. The program is open to students from all departments, and courses are taught in English.

MINOR

Sound Engineering Minor Program

Coordinated by the Department of Music Technology at the Turkish Music State Conservatory together with the Dr. Erol Üçer Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM), this minor program introduces students to fundamental concepts in sound arts and music production from an interdisciplinary perspective. It aims to connect students from different departments of the university with music and music technology, open pathways into creative industries such as sound design, environmental sound, gaming, music, film, and television, and prepare students for graduate studies in sound and music. The program is open to students from all departments (except TMDK students), and there is no entrance examination.

Sustainability Minor Program

Coordinated by the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Management, this minor program has an interdisciplinary structure covering sustainable development goals, climate change adaptation and mitigation, ecology and environmental sustainability, sustainable cities, the green economy, green and digital transformation, sustainable supply chain and logistics management, and the fundamentals of environmental science and engineering. It aims to teach students from engineering, architecture, and basic sciences the sustainable development goals along with related principles and practices, and to give them a contemporary, interdisciplinary perspective that considers economic, environmental, and social objectives together in their professional work. The program is open to students from all departments, and courses are taught in English.

MINOR

Fire Engineering Minor Program

Led by the Disaster and Emergency Management Program at the Disaster Management Institute, in connection with the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Chemical-Metallurgical Engineering Faculty, this minor program provides an interdisciplinary knowledge base and applied skills in fire science, fire dynamics, active and passive fire protection systems, structural fire safety, human behavior and evacuation, risk analysis, and related regulations. It offers students, particularly from core engineering disciplines such as chemical, mechanical, civil, and materials engineering, the opportunity to combine their major competencies with in-depth specialization in fire engineering. Graduates gain the ability to apply fundamental engineering principles such as combustion mechanisms, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics to fire events; recognize fire detection, warning, and suppression systems and related regulations (e.g., the Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings); analyze fire risks; and use computer-aided design and simulation tools. The entire program consists of elective courses, with no mandatory course, and is open to all engineering programs.

Earth Systems and Global Change Minor Program

Coordinated by the Department of Geological Engineering at the Faculty of Mines together with the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences, this minor program examines global change issues with a holistic perspective by addressing the interactions between the atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere. The program helps students relate their own fields to global change issues using interdisciplinary tools and analytical methods, and develops a perspective that allows them to create sustainability-focused solutions in different professional and research areas. The program includes new courses covering an introduction to Earth system science, tools for observing and analyzing Earth data, geological hazards and risk management, and sustainability and policy. The program is open to students from all departments, and courses are taught in English.
